Undiscovered Etsy Shops
The Pounce feature also allows me to browse through a list of up to 10 undiscovered sellers. And by undiscovered they mean sellers with ZERO sales. I have to say I find this to be somewhat depressing especially when things are moving slowly in my own stores. MotherNest sat still for a couple of months without a single sale and I have to say it felt very hopeless. Many of the ‘undiscovered’ sellers have had stores for YEARS without a single sale. Often I can see why( bad photos, shoddy descriptions, poor construction) and I am reminded why my own herculean efforts are important. Other times I scour their stores trying to find fault and come up with nothing. I can only assume that they aren’t doing any marketing at all or what they are doing just isn’t working. I’ve often wondered why Etsy doesn’t separate the “I joined Etsy” date from the “I opened my shop” date. I’m sure a goodly number of these shops didn’t open years ago — the seller joined as a buyer years ago. I was a buyer for well over a year before I opened up shop, which makes my 50+ sales look lethargic rather than not too bad.
But I agree…there are some great (and lousy) undiscovered shop out there!!!
Occasionally I will wander through shops I find on Pounce and Twitter about the cool stuff some undiscovered shops have. I call it “New Shop Needs ♥” and I like to sit back and watch their views increase. I’ve even seen some sales from it!!
I agree that that first sale is often many months in the making and I think a lot of new sellers take a long time to figure out what works for them promotion wise. Pounce is a great feature for these Etsians.
I just opened my shop in January and my “opening” date is 2008. So, mine is also when I joined as a Buyer and not a Seller. It does look like I’ve been sitting on my stuff for a long time!
