In my travels around the web, I’ve been noticing buttons for The Sketchbook Project and naturally had to investigate. What I found is a cool little movement started by the Art House Co-Op to allow artists another avenue to express their creativity and bring art to the masses. Check it out for yourself and be inspired.

The Sketchbook Project: 2011

“Thousands of sketchbooks will be exhibited at galleries and museums as they make their way on tour across the country. After the tour, all sketchbooks will enter into the permanent collection of The Brooklyn Art Library, where they will be barcoded and available for the public to view. Anyone – from anywhere in the world – can be a part of the project.” [Art House Co-Op]

Hurry, the deadline to sign up is Oct 31st.  Are you participating in this project? We would love to hear from you and learn what you are planning on filling your pages with!

I have signed up for the project and my theme is nighttime stories. When I was a little girl, before there was tv in India, our summer nights would be filled with the stories my mother told us from the Indian mythologies. My mother passed away recently and when the theme of “nighttime stories” was offered in the sketchbook project, it seemed a very appropriate vehicle for remembering my mother.

That is wonderful and such a sweet sentiment. I would love to see the process!

I’m really excited to be part of this project – I just received my sketchbook! I choose “Secret Codes”, because I love all the imagery that my dreams provide me – my own secret language that I’ll be trying to represent in my book.

My mom participated in a project like this! Except it was a moleskin project. Any ways she won the third place prize! So proud of her! :)

This sounds like such a fun project! I got in the practice of sketching every day when I was in college taking art courses and when I started making my own sketchbooks out of vintage novels, I let the covers inspire the work inside- very similar to this! I see the theme “Boys and Girls” up on the site right now and am kinda drooling over it. To buy, or not to buy?
