The Art of Recycling (Part One)

Recycled Magazine Drink Coasters by EmsEmporium

Recycle, to save from loss and restore to usefulness.  Do you think about the environment?  I’m very passionate about recycling and do my best to promote amongst others.

So, over the hills and through the stores of Etsy I go.  I came up with a collection of great finds.  Several “hearts” were given out and my wishlist grew out of control.  I’ve chosen a handful to share with you.

My day doesn’t start without a “To Do List,” so I found this Recycled Pocket size notepad with a 40′s Supermarket Shelf theme on it created by bigfootpress.  Compact to have on hand when you need it.  No more writing notes on receipts and bank statements.

Ladies, how about a new handbag?    This is one of my favorite finds.  The Beatles Magazine Purse is unique in itself.  Coverstorypurses made it from recycled magazine pages.  She has a wide variety to select from and she also offers to custom make a purse for you using your own photos.  What a great way to put your photos to use.

Now, to go with the purse you’ll need the Chanel Magazine Clutch Wallet, designed by creationsbyingrid.  Another great designer who puts magazines to good use.

For the men in your life I found a Vintage Metal License Plate Belt Buckle designed by Randitan.  Who would of thought that there was a way to recycle license plates into an accessory.

For all the children who love to color, check out these Star Crazy Recycled Crayons, by Maxandmeena.  How creative and easy to handle.  Adds a little “kick” to the activity.

My last find would attract jewelry designers who look to include recycled items in their products.  I can honestly say that I’ve never seen beads like this.  UpcycleYourWorld has created these hand rolled paper beads using Macaroni and Cheese boxes.  Clever.

I stated this was a handful of items.  There are so many more within the Etsy shops, so now I’m off to add to my wish list.

I love all these creative ways of re-using materials, but my favourite is the crazy crayons for a nostalgic reason…

When I was little my brother and I got up early before Mum & Dad and decided to make our own crayons by mixing different colours of crayons together. We did this by heating them on the heater and collecting them in ice cube trays. Needless to say, my parents were less than thrilled when they woke up to find us doing this and crayon wax melted into the heater and the carpet.

I’m sure Maxandmeena have a much better way of making their crazy crayons!
