Stand Out In A Sea Of Blogs And Get More Readers

There are hundreds of thousands of handmade sellers out there and many of them have blogs.  It is easy to get lost in the vast sea of the blogsphere.  CozyLittleCave, an Etsy seller posted some of her great solutions for  getting your blog noticed   This is such a hot topic and had to rewind and share!

CozyLittleCave says:

In my own blogging adventures ( http://www.cozylittlecave.com ), I’ve recently noticed a big pitfall for etsy bloggers… too often, they lack style, punch, or a strong personality.

So, do you post often, host giveaways, promote your blog in the forums/facebook/twitter, post with pictures, and post about a variety of topics? And do you STILL find your followers and comments sparse? It might just be that your blog is simply blending in with the masses- you need to punch it up a notch!

Here are some tips I’ve found for kicking up your style & personality…

- ENJOY blogging. If blogging is a chore, it will show in your posts- and no one wants to read about chores! Make sure you’re above all posting about what interests you; if you don’t love blogging- figure out what you don’t like & change it!

-RAISE THE BAR. Treat your blog seriously- as you do your etsy shop! If you treat the level of quality, design, and presentation as if it were a professional blog (whether or not it is), you’re less likely to blend in.

- LOOK AROUND at other successful blogs. Ask yourself what you like about them. What can you emulate? What makes them successful? This can be your #1 source for inspiration and streamlining your own blog.

- DESIGN your blog layout. You don’t have to be a programmer or internet whiz to pull off a slick looking blog. We talk all the time about banner design, listing photos, and the overall design of an etsy shop- treat your blog the same way! Keep your look cohesive and organized. Try to stay away from harsh colors, super-bold patterns, or anything generally flashy.

    An excellent post!

You mentioned the importance of a blog’s design, and I wholeheartedly agree. One other tip to remember is that a blog should be an extension of your business. The branding (colors, graphics, “voice”) should be similar. Customers who visit your blog should have no doubt that the blog compliments your online shop.

Branding across the board is so important Julie. You want your customers to recognize you where ever your foot prints lead!

An additional not to design: what is really striking about CozyLittleCave’s own blog is the usability. The blog is simple without being boring, making it a pleasure to navigate.

oops: note on design, not ‘not to design’…another note might be to never try to multitask while typing, sigh.
