Spark At Home – DIY Home Renovations – Modern Black Wood Floors
It is important to make your office space inspiring and just the way you like it. When we first saw our office, my wife and I both knew we wanted the floors to be black. The floors in our office did not have carpet, but still needed to be sanded. To finish the office floors I needed only a few items. First on the list were some tack cloths (2 pack $1.50). After sweeping the floors you tack cloth and wipe down the floor to remove any dust left behind. Second is a pair of rubber gloves (less than a dollar). Third is a good natural bristle brush designed for polyurethane ($10). Lastly is the Minwax Black Polyshade ($7.98). The PolyShade is a mixture of a stain and a polyurethane.
Use the brush to apply the poly. Make sure you are going with the grain and you are going all the way from one end to the other. you don’t want to stop with a line in the middle of the room. You will make a line where you stopped.
Half way done the black PolyShade.
After about 30 minutes of applying the poly, the floor is done for now. Be sure to place a fan near the floor to help speed up the drying process.
This is not the final step to the process. I will come back and add another coat of black polyshade, sand, tack cloth, add a coat of clear poly for more protection, sand, tack cloth, and then a final coat of poly to finish it off!
