Searching For The Perfect Newborn Hat!

I’m due with my first child (a boy!) on August 1st…only 6 weeks from today! A photographer-friend of mine is going to be in the hospital right after he’s born to capture all those sweet first moments of his life. I LOVE baby hats, and I want my little man to have a cute one on during his first photo shoot! I’ve been scouring Etsy to find something simple and classic-looking. Here are some of my finds!

*One question, though. Do these all look too hot for an August baby?

So cute! I'd say they are ok for an August baby, depending on the thickness. Be sure to ask the creators what fiber they are made in…100% cotton will be best and a lighter weight yarn would be better than a thicker yarn. Even 100% cotton in a thicker weight yarn will be hot. Ask me how I know ;)

The reason why newborns wear hats (they'll probably put one on in the nursery that looks like it was cut from a roll of some medical stuff) is one you already know: We lose most of our heat through our heads. Since newborns have proportionately large heads and many have trouble regulating their body heat at birth — voila! — a hat is a good idea.

I will tell you, though, that I swaddled my firstborn as though he would die if I didn't. I worried when I put him to bed that he'd be cold and put those sleepers on him that covered his feet. I'd get up and cover him during the night. When he was finally able to talk, I think one of his first phrases was "I'm hot."

He seems pretty normal now, though; I don't think I did any permanent damage to him :)

Congrats on the upcoming baby boy birth! I'm expecting my first July 5th (only two weeks away)… I've been going crazy making baby stuff. Here's one I recently listed. http://www.etsy.com/listing/49413250/newborn-hand…
