Pantone 2011 Color of the Year: Honeysuckle

pantone 18-2120

Today Pantone announced their Color of the Year as PANTONE 18-2120  Honeysuckle. It’s a gorgeous color – hot pink with red undertones, that is sure to invigorate and inspire.  As Pantone says:

Honeysuckle emboldens us to face everyday troubles with verve and vigor. A dynamic reddish pink, Honeysuckle is encouraging and uplifting. It elevates our psyche beyond escape, instilling the confidence, courage and spirit to meet the exhaustive challenges that have become part of everyday life.

“In times of stress, we need something to lift our spirits. Honeysuckle is a captivating, stimulating color that gets the adrenaline going – perfect to ward off the blues,” explains Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the Pantone Color Institute®. “Honeysuckle derives its positive qualities from a powerful bond to its mother color red, the most physical, viscerally alive hue in the spectrum.”

Wow! I wondered what could top the purrfect turquoise of 2010. Honeysuckle just might do it. Nice finds of designers already using this color!

There you go. The name led me to expect this would be a yellow, since that’s the colour of honeysuckle I grew up with. This was a pleasant surprise. It’s a great colour.

Honeysuckle is a really variable colour! I thought it was going to be a nice yellow, I forgot about the pink base of the flower. Unusual. Thanks for your post.

I heard about this this morning! Everyone is saying the same thing, “I thought it be amberish/yellowish tone”. Learn something new every day! :)

I have got to say I wasn’t totally into this colour of the year when it was first announced, but having seen the beautiful examples from Etsy I am warming to it rapidly! Those cotton bracelets are just gorgeous

I’m personally not a fan of having a “color of the year” because there are just too many beautiful colors to choose from and its all subjective anyway!

Wow, this is interesting. I never thought a pink hue would be named color of the year. It is gorgeous though!

    Never heard of Pantone…….wow!

Wasn’t much of a “pink” person. But after seeing these items, love it. Especially the cotton bracelets.

    Thanks for sharing.

I love this color, but honeysuckle is not the right name! Honeysuckle should be *yellow*!!!

  • Designsbyjenean

I thought the same thing. Glad I was mistaken. Luv Honeysuckle!
