New Seller: Made Right Designs
New Etsy shop owner, Miriam Geiger, of Made Right Designs, debuted on Etsy on October 2009. Her shop has been well received and I recently sat down with her to discuss life and art.
What you see at Made Right Designs is the marriage of my three favorite things: crafting, olden times, and computer art. I’m so glad I finally found a way to bring them together.”
Briefly describe yourself and how you find out about Etsy:
I’m a computer art junky – I took my first Photoshop class when I was
in junior high and I’ve been hooked ever since. I also love sewing and
all kinds of crafts, especially paper and collage. I have a
background in fashion design and theatre design so I’ve always done
something creative, in one way or the other.
I first heard about Etsy years and years ago from a friend and I’ve
shopped here ever since.
Why did you decide to sell here?:
I’ve always toyed with the idea of having a shop of my own. I recently
joined the masses of unemployed people in the US, and now seemed like
the time to really challenge myself to chose my future. I find Etsy a
really inspiring place to be – there is just so much creative energy
and personality to be found here. My goal is to inspire creative
people, so Etsy is an ideal place for me to do that.
What are some goals you want to meet here on etsy?:
Besides steady sales, I’d love to build some relationships with repeat
customers and other Etsy members. Working at home is wonderful, but I
love feeling connected to other people who are passionate about
crafting as well. I’d also like to raise peoples awareness about
digital clip art, digital paper, and digital templates. It’s such a
fun way to craft, I want to spread the word, you don’t have to be a
computer wizard or have a fancy printer to use this kind of product.
Do you want to craft full time or is this a fun hobby for you?:
This is scary to say, but my dream is to do it full time!
Do you think Etsy features enough new sellers?:
That’s a tough one. A lot of the featured sellers are fairly
established, but I do notice that there are also people on the front
page that are new. I guess I don’t pay enough attention to how old or
new a shop is, just if I like their merchandise.
What do you think of features like Pounce that help new sellers get exposure?:
Unfortunately not, I like the idea of Pounce but I just don’t see why
shopper would go there, it’s sort-of tucked away. I know as a shopper
I never did.
How long do you plan to sell on Etsy?:
Well, FOREVER. No really, I’m trying to take it one thing at a time so
I don’t have an end date in mind.
