Moving Forward When You Feel like You are Behind

September is the month every creative entrepreneur should have their plans in place to participate in the holiday craft fair circuit or at least have made some inventory considerations in preparation for the holiday shoppers.  BUT Maybe some of you are (LIKE ME) feeling this anxious feeling (read DREAD) over not being as prepared as you would like to be.  How do you move from that helpless out of control feeling to progressing towards a solid game plan, confident that you are ready to experience financial success that such a plan can offer?  Here is where I have decided to place my creative energies:

  1. Make a list of blogs that I want to approach for advertising opportunities.  Choose those that I LOVE and are in line with my products’ aesthetic and also ones that I would be proud to promote as well.

  2. Look at what worked last year in my product line and start there with my creative energy and begin building my inventory.

  3. Make a schedule that I can stick to for my blogging and other social media promoting (facebook, twitter, tumblr, etc.).  Time is incredibly precious especially during the seasons where sales have the most potential to thrive.  With that in mind, I must recognize that self promotion is a NECESSITY not an option.

What other places would you choose to distribute your creative energy when you find yourself becoming overwhelmed?

I really like the idea of setting a schedule for the on-line stuff – it's so easy to get sucked in and fritter away an hour or three on things that aren't really productive but as you point out staying away completely is not the answer as they are an important part of self-promotion. Setting aside time and sticking to time limits seems a very sensible thing that I think I REALLY need to do to get through the coming months!

Great tips Robin, on scheduling your on-line marketing via social media – especially, as you said – for this shopping season when it can really pay off. . . literally!
