Making the World a Better Place One Craft at a Time – Right as Rain
Hands are For Helping NOT Hurting by BumbleBellyDesigns
There is nothing better then the feeling of helping others.
I’ve found many great groups of people who are using crafts to positively impact peoples lives. My goal is to introduce you to each one, one at a time! My hope is that you will find one that is a great fit for you and give a little bit of your love to the world!
I asked the founder of Right as Rain Sarah Olvera some questions about what inspired her to get started, and how it all works…
Sarah:
“Last fall, a dear friend of mine’s baby was born with a rare blood disease – (by 6 weeks old – he’d had 10 blood transfusions). Thankfully, he recovered, but the ordeal left my friend with a mountain of medical bills insurance didn’t cover. They’re in Montana, I’m in New York City…so I wondered what I could do to get some NYC money out to them while no one knew them here? People had told me my hand-crafted greeting cards were good enough to sell…so I did. I sold $2500 worth of them in about 8 weeks time and surprised my friend with a check for her son Harvey.
It felt so good and so useful, there was no doubt in my mind that other crafters would also want to give their gift – as a gift — and then we could help a lot more people. So often you hear stories of an accident, a fire, some unforeseen event that befalls someone and you just wish you could do something to help. So, Right as Rain was formed. And, we made it so everyone can help and everyone gets something out of it!
We ask artisans of all kinds to donate a piece or more of their work – and in exchange – we promote their stores or Etsy shops to our growing community. We then sell the donated crafts and art to the friends and family of our recipient – someone who’s in an unexpected crisis. So they not only feel great for helping a friend, they also get some awesome hand-made stuff!
We’ve been at it for just over 2 months now, and we have over 80 committed artisans representing over $13,000 in hand-made crafts and art. They range from moms who are crafting when the kids go to bed – to professional artists like Donna Demari (she was the first female photographer on the Sports Illustrated swimsuit edition).

Right now Chelsea Meythaler needs our help. She’s a 31 yr old woman whose life was changed in a blink of an eye in a car accident… read more about her on the Right as Rain Blog
