Just Like Music: Retro Sounds On Etsy

Art Block Set by John W. Golden

Do you have a go-to song for those times when you need to just relax, not think too much?  A song that soothes and brings back happy memories?

I bet, like me, you have a ton of them.  I’ve been listening to one of my go-to songs this morning – it’s called ‘Music’ and it’s by Erick Sermon (featuring samples from ‘Turn on Some Music’ by Marvin Gaye).  I love it’s beat, it’s smooth soulful sound and that it’s full of lyrics like this:

To relax my mind so I can be free…To keep me flowing and keep me going…I wish music could adopt me…’

And this:

Music is the soul of the man; Music makes a happy day…Happiness today is just a song away…’

I also love that it reminds me of my sister (I discovered it through her) and that it also reminds me of a ridiculously happy New Years Eve many many years ago, in what seems like another lifetime.

So, with nostalgic thoughts and retro sounds in mind, I hope you enjoy these Etsy finds of mine!

Cassette tape card wallet by Little Clouds

I’ve also featured Little Clouds on my other blog – I can’t possibly say enough good things about her and the stuff she makes.  Go check her shop out, ok?

Cassette tape monster tee by Dark Cycle Clothing

Grrrrrrr!  This music monster is awesome!

Turntable cup by Circa Ceramics

Who could say no to a little old school turntable action with their morning cuppa?

Ghetto blaster earrings by Plastique

Too cute – but imagine if they actually worked, now that would be beyond cool!

Mix tape journal by Nerd Jerk

On Etsy, you can find cassette tape designs on purses and bags and tees and cards, I particularly like these journals from Nerd Jerk.  Why do you think the design has endured, past the objects usefulness?  I like to think it’s because there is something inherently ‘good’ about the shape and colours of the old tape, but perhaps it’s really about nostalgia too?

Record player greeting cards by Two Poodle Press

These cards are described as ‘hipster approved’! Yes!

Cassette laptop decal by beepart

This wins my vote for Coolest Laptop Decal on Etsy.  It’s on the wishlist…

Stereo birthday card by Venerate

I remember I had a bright red one of these, I think I may have put rainbow stickers on it too – should I be worried that inside the card it says ‘you’re getting old!’?
