Hot Topic: Announcing Etsy Groups
On Saturday, Amber posted an article about the importance of finding the right Etsy Team for you. Consider the start of the fall sports season your cue to join an Etsy Team. Why? Because now Etsy is about to roll out a new version of Etsy Teams called Etsy Groups. And it sounds like it will be a fantastic resource for everyone!
It’s basically a replacement for ye olde Teams pages. Down the road we will be adding Group discussion forums, Group marketplaces, communication features, and much, much more. Much-much, oh so much, much more!
For those of you who are members of Etsy Teams, and already know the benefits that being a team member brings, this is great news! And for those who are Leaders of these teams, this is super-fantastic news! Many teams have (creatively, of course!) developed and run their own team blogs, team Facebook pages, team Twitter accounts, team websites, team sales and promotions, and the list goes on and on. But to communicate with team members, the leaders have often resorted to using whatever was available, be it a Yahoo newsgroup or a Google group as two examples.
Imagine being able to keep your team organized from the comfort of your own space on Etsy. Priceless! (And don’t you just love the “…oh so much, much more” in the quote above, too? I read that as “many more goodies to come!”) Etsy is still in beta-testing (Step One). Step Two will involve opening up the Groups feature to all team leaders. And then it gets even better with Step Three:
Groups will become live for everyone! At this point, anyone on Etsy will have the ability to create a group, write a description and create membership guidelines (a.k.a. the charter). You’ll be able to create groups that are open to all, or ones that are moderated — meaning people will have to request permission and be accepted in order to join. More information about how all of this works will be coming soon.
Now that will be fun indeed! Stay tuned!
