Fall 2010 Color Trends

Handmade Leather Journal, The Traveler in Woodbine Green and Cream by peaseblossomstudio

Although the Autumn season doesn’t officially begin for another month, and many of us are truly experiencing the “dog days” of summer, it is not too early to consider how you can incorporate this year’s fall color trends into your handmade creations. Pantone has long been the authority on color trend forecasting. This is their color palette for Fall 2010:

Sellers of supplies can use these colors to their advantage, whether selling beads or fabrics.

Handmade sellers can create items featuring these colors, whether you use a few trending shades together, or just one solid color for a strong impact.

Vintage sellers can also highlight their offerings when the colors match up, as many people seek vintage items not only to collect, but to match their décor. Emphasize how a living room can be snazzed up for fall by adding glassware, for example, in one of the popular colors.

What’s that? You sell organic cookies on Etsy? How about using one of these colors as a prop in your photos, be it a colorful bowl or vintage napkins, in one of the colors listed above?

And don’t forget to tag your listings with these colors too. Not everyone will look for “Lipstick Red” items, but many will look for “Red.”

Someone may not specifically search for “Golden Glow” but they will definitely look for “Golden Yellow.”

And honestly, “Lagoon” to the naked eye is similar to Pantone’s color of the year for 2010, which is Turquoise, so keep that in mind too.

How do you plan to incorporate these color trends into your shop?

Awesome. Thanks for sharing. One of the biggest decisions in my creations is the background color. This will help. <><

I'm all about the turquoise and green- what they call lagoon and woodbine I suppose. I had these colors on my blog awhile ago…love them all. I have some earrings coming soon that are very close to the Rose Dust. Also lots of red and sunshiny yellow as well as Pumpkin Spice and Mint Julep.

I love the chocolate truffle and woodbine..aka brown and green but doesn't it sound so much more enticing?

Thanks for the Saturday rewind of this post – I missed it on Monday!
I can tell you that turquoise is THE most popular tile color in my shop right now – that's what everyone is buying! Next in line…Golden glow or goldenrod. Nice to see that I'm right in line with 2 of the colors…..now to fill out with the rest!

  • Amber

You are welcome Linda..the rewind will be happening every sat. so you never miss a thing!

I like the idea of using these colors as backgrounds, even if your item isn't exactly the same color. I read this post a while ago and I took some photos today with "golden glow" as the background. Funny how our brains work, huh?
