Etsy Business Spark – Wild Hare Fiber Studio
I posted a few things on etsy about two years ago, just to see if they would sell. My hope was that I might be able to make enough to fund my beloved fiber hobbies. I got my first sale the next day, but it took a while longer to figure out what products worked best, and to gain momentum. The response I got on etsy gave me the courage to start doing shows, and the collapse of the housing market (I was a Realtor until recently) gave me more time to focus on my fledgling business. I’m now about to move my studio from my house to a public location, where I can expand to do local business and offer classes. Etsy has really been a great place to start… not that I’m going anywhere! I’ve gained both business experience and confidence in myself and my work.
My advice to new sellers: don’t undervalue your time or talent and underprice your work. Instead, focus on developing products that you can make profitably (and still love). And most definately register your business officially with your town/state/etc. – you gain credibility, as well as access to purchasing your supplies at wholesale prices.
