Etsy Business Spark – Allison Mooney Design
My Etsy Story: Allison Mooney Design
I’ve been on Etsy for almost six months and I love it.
I am a jewelry designer that went from big business to motherhood to Etsy. I designed and sold my jewelry at Nordstrom stores around the country for years and it was demanding, but so fun and flattering. On Labor Day in 2008 I had my beautiful daughter, Tallulah Jean. After a year off of making jewelry, I reinvented my line last Autumn and opened my Etsy store. I love being able to make whatever I choose and try different silhouettes, materials, whims. It feels great to see where the day takes me.
My daughter is now 18-months old and I am happy to have a way to work from home, contribute to the household and do what I love while spending time with her. I am very grateful!
What I have learned about business since I launched my Etsy shop?
Photography is so important. Invest your time in taking lots of shots and editing them down to some really good ones. I realized buyers feel more confident in what they’re buying if the can really see what it looks like (and when they have all the specifics.)
Tell us one piece of advice for new sellers.
Listing items is a cumbersome process. To speed things up it is important to be prepared with all of your information and photos before you start. Know the pertinent info – styles, materials and dimensions of your items so you can list the details. Have some key tags thought out to get you going. Know the photograph file numbers that you are going to use so you can more quickly select and upload your product shots.
