EcoSpark: Reusing & Recycling Plastic Bags

recycled grocery bag basket - pink and green watermelon

Many people in the craft world are taking environmental issues into their own hands and I say “good on them”! I am going to use the next few articles I write for Handmade Spark to explore how etsy artists and crafters recycle and re-use various items to create new and beautiful things.

I am just amazed at the stunning and useful range of objects that can be designed from that simple piece of rubbish – the plastic bag. Many items shown below are fashioned from ‘plarn’ (plastic yarn) which is easily made by tying together loops of sliced up bags. Here’s how to do it

Basket weaving using plarn can be so beautiful!

Who would have thought that stringing bits of cut up plastic bags could create something like this amazing necklace?

Great post, Pepe, and the tutorial video was fun to watch. I am not nearly as creative with using old plastic bags, other than to line my wastebaskets in my house. You see? Not even close to the amazing creativity of the artists you've featured!
