Eco-Spark: Upcycling & Recycling Bits & Bobs

The Eco Boxy Felt Camera Case by claraiuribe

In praise of people who are committed to crafting in an environmentally friendly sort of way, I am sharing some Etsy finds that reuse old stuff to make nice new things. Upcycling!

In my last article I wrote about some of the great things that are being made from rubbish such as plastic bags.

This article focuses on the various bits and bobs most crafty people have stashed around the house (you know who you are) – buttons, bows, old tape, you name it, it can be reused and upcycled into a wide variety of produects..

From simple buttons. . .

old knitting needles. . .

to measuring tape. . .

and old zippers. . .

The moral of this story? Being a magpie is not such a bad thing. Sometimes it’s the things we stash away that can become the creative inspirations of the future.

Do you upcycle old stuff to make new things? Let us know!

I love those zipper brooches! And thanks for the reassurance about being a magpie…

Colleen, I too love receiving things in recycled envelopes, thanks for your comments.

and Emily, a tip – kids are a great excuse for magpies – you never know when that ice cream container/old CD/shoe box will be needed desperately to create a space ship/easter hat/school play costume… I have a "useful box" just like on Playschool (great Australian kids show) and I'm not afraid to use it ;)

I love those rose zippers! I am trying to move more towards upcycling rather than just recycling. This post has filled me with the inspiration to look through my magpie style hoard and find a mini project to fill this sunny day! Thanks!
