Creative Spark – Polymer Clay Techniques – Floral Festival
This article on polymer clay techniques was inspired by a TV show –James May’s Toy Story. In the series UK Top Gear celeb James May goes back to his childhood an explores some of the toys he used to play with as a kid then makes big things out of them. It features a Meccano bridge that you can actually walk over, a full size Lego House AND a life sized garden made completely from plasticine. My son was very keen to show me this episode because he thought I could try making the same sorts of flowers (in miniature) out of clay. He was right! Using various techniques you can make a whole garden out of polymer clay. Take a look.
You can use molds like this one to give instant floral success. Flexible molds get the best results but if you use a little talc before pressing the clay into the mold it slips out more easily
Here’s another technique, carefully roll out strips of clay and wind them around stems to create beautiful roses
Truly amazing are these lifelike bouquets where each petal is individually crafted in clay
Tiny polymer flowers and leaves couple beautifully with glass beads and silver charms
Polymer creates perfect little pot plants for a dolls house!
On etsy there are even flowers to wear in your hair made out of polymer clay
So there you have it, a hand made maintenance free floral festival! I hope you enjoyed these colorful finds.
